Building your own home can be a cost effective, soul satisfying, enjoyable experience that involves minimal stress with maximum payback. In early 2010 we decided to build a
custom home and we wanted to do the contracting ourselves. Our intent was to be able to build exactly what
we wanted and not be confined by the cost of making changes as we went along. The first key decision was
to create a set of blueprints that reflected exactly what we wanted. The bright light that gave illumination to our plan was meeting
Wendy and Direct Home Design. As a result of working with her we now have a unique set of house plans that
reflect exactly what we want, not a revamp of what someone else dreamed up. Wendy helped us create and guided our creativity
without taking over. Her desire was that the final result would be what we wanted; yet she very carefully
guided us to insure we did not fall into traps of mistakes we would have made on our own. She helped us
minimize hall space while maximizing the use of floor space to create an open concept that is warm and inviting. She
does not forget the little things such as closet space, niches into walls for unique furniture, and careful consideration
of electrical and plumbing to maximize home efficiency. We also have a classic view from three sides of
our property and Wendy helped us maximize the use of windows and covered porches to make the outside as inviting as the inside
of our home.
The process she coordinated was also a welcome experience. Wendy suggests ideas and helps build concepts
together. She does not impose ideas and sell them. She truly listens and wants the conversations
to be inclusive of all ideas. She was always readily available and fun to work with. Direct
Home Design is what the name implies, you work directly together to design your home the way you want it.

AWESOME house plans for me. The plans turned out perfect and Wendy made all revisions quickly and professionally,
usually within a couple of days. [Plus she’s really good looking, easy on the eyes, if you know
what I mean.] Basically
I started with what I wanted sketched out on a plain piece paper and Wendy took my ideas and designed my dream home exactly
the way I wanted. I really think she could read my mind! Wendy improved my design by listening
to what I wanted and revised the roofline to get me there. Her ideas added the headroom necessary to give
me that extra room in the attic area. She brought her experiences to the table by turning dead-space in

character. In working with Wendy, I have found her to be extremely competent in both custom home design
and smaller interior design projects. Additionally, she performed the required tasks in a timely manner,
while also being gracious and flexible with the design changes that were inevitably to come her way.
As far as additional qualities pertinent to her field, Wendy displayed an outstanding ability to capture my vision
and form it into a substantive design project. Put another way, she showed insight and discernment in understanding
what I was looking for, even though I was unable to clearly articulate it. Then, she was able to work with
me through a series of interactions to come up with the final project that was remarkably close to what I had hoped for from
